Susan Namara
Program officer – Agriculture, Gender and Human Rights
Ms. Susan Namara is an accomplished academic and researcher with extensive expertise in Gender Studies and Human Rights. Ms Susan is a holder of two Masters’ Degrees, one in Human Rights and another in Gender Studies on top of a Bachelor’s Degree qualification in Social Sciences with specialization in Gender Studies. All these academic qualifications were attained at Makerere University, Uganda. Ms Susan is currently pursuing PhD course in Gender Studies at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
As regards work experience, Ms. Susan for ten-year period served as Assistant Lecturer at Kyambogo University (Department of Social Work and Social Administration). Her main focus of her lecturing career included but were not limited to subjects such as Gender Studies, Human Rights, Community Development and Environmental Planning and Management. Alongside the teaching role, Ms. Susan worked on various research projects. She worked as an independent researcher and at the same time she undertook consultancy engagements with the Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment (ACODE). ACODE is one of the world’s top Think Tanks renowned for its wide range of development and Environment issues. At ACODE, Ms Susan provided leadership in several projects particularly, the Local Government Councils’ score-card initiative (LGCSCI) that was aimed at determining the level of district performance with respect to service delivery. Ms Susan carried out advocacy campaigns, wrote research reports for policy formulation and associated publications. Some of her publications can be accessed on the ACODE website.
In all, her academic background and professional experience have honed her skills in research, communication, and advocacy that align seamlessly with ACCC’s vision and mission.
