Magume Stephen

Executive Director

Magume Rwabukwiire Stephen is the Executive Director of Action Coalition on Climate Change. He is professional environmentalist with a Master’s Degree in Zoology specialising in Fisheries Biology and Aquatic sciences. He is a member of a number of professional societies that include Ecological Society of East Africa (ESEA), Tropical Limnologists of East Africa and Uganda Wild life Society.

Magume has undertaken professional courses in Transboundary Water Management (TWM), Geographical Information System (GIS) for Strategic Biodiversity Conservation and Project Conceptualization and Preparation and Tropical Limnology among others.

Magume has a wealth of working experience having served as a secondary school teacher, University lecturer, Fisheries officer for a period of ten years, and as a researcher in the field of environment and natural resources. It is through such an experience that he has been able to interface with effects of climate change. This raised his level of conscious of the climate change threats to the extent of founding this organisation. Magume has read widely on the issues of climate change and affirms that its effects are already with even the famous Pearl of Africa, which calls for immediate action to mitigate and or adapt to those impacts.

I am a holder of a professional Master of Science Degree in Zoology specialising in Environmental Studies with particular bias to Fisheries Biology and Aquatic Sciences of Makerere University. In addition, I am also a holder of Bachelor of Science in Botany and Zoology having majored in Natural Resources Ecology and Wild life Biology. I am also a holder of a professional Diploma in Education qualifying me to teach Biology and Chemistry at second school level of Uganda’s educational structure. I hold a string of other post graduate professional certificates in different fields of human development endeavours. The multiplicity of courses pursued during my academic and working careers that make me versatile and knowledgeable in the common fields of development as the knowledge acquired has in way or another been put to profitable use in the advancement of human growth and development.

I have before taught at all levels of the country’s educational structure including serving as university lecturer in the field of Biological and environmental sciences. I have before served as senior Fisheries officer in local government for a period of ten years. Overall, I have a working experience of over 20 years now.

It is by the combination of diverse training and long work experience that has given me ample opportunity to serve in different institutions with relative distinct. I am, thus, able to confront every situation with confidence and optimism to succeed in every task at my disposal.

I am currently serving as the Executive Director of Action      Coalition on Climate Change (ACCC), a position I have used to implement climate change- related issues in some parts including Nakasongola district. In this district, my organisation was in 2011 able to engage in adaptation and mitigation interventions. This has been accompanied with of presentation of conference papers at various global fora and enough exposure to be used in steering environmental concerns forward and for the benefit of current and future generations.

Kiconco possess over 16 years of experience in research and advocacy. she has been serving as lecturer at both Makerere and Kyambogo Public Universities of Uganda. She has attended many international conferences related to development, especially of women. The wide scope of training has exposed her to wealth of knowledge that is not usually accessed to students under specific university entry criteria common with universities in developing countries. Given her communication and research skills among others, she has been found to be resourceful in the furtherance of ACCC’s vision, mission and objectives. Climate change being a threat of multifaceted dimensions and largely affecting the usual victims-women and children, Kiconco’s background training is a boost in the organisation’s efforts to mitigate and adapt to those threats.

Nimpamya has over 15 years of experience in advocacy and research work. He is a distinguished environmentalist, peace and conflict analyst and a human rights defender. His work focuses on the political, economic, and environmental underpinnings of region’s nascent extractive sector, oil and gas sector, environment and climate change, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), promoting transparency and accountability.  He serves on different boards of national, regional and international organizations and platforms.
